I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate with a 250 GB hard disk, that had some extra data partitions on it. I do not need these partitions anymore, so I deleted them, and want to add the free space onto the C: drive. But... the extend option on C: is greyed out, and I need the extra disk space to be able to put my backups back.

How do I add space to the C: drive?

Most likely something's got your C: drive locked (is using it) and Windows isn't able to work around it.
I'd first suggest trying it in Safe Mode. To get to Safe Mode, try pressing F8 repeatedly just before the Windows splash screen shows up (when booting).

Ah, started in safe mode, drive is unlocked, I can resize, I am happy.

Thanks
