BleepingComputer.com: Norton's Found 'fixcamera Trojan

Hi Guys,

Norton's found the 'FixCamera' trojan during a real time scan while browsing. In the histories section of Notons the system is still listed as infected (I tried to delete the file but it is still listed here). Is this file gone (removed by Norton's) or is it still active? I can't find this information in Norton's help files or online.

This afternoon Norton's also found 'A0036381.exe' with a real time scan and listed this as a trojan too. Are these events related? Norton's is still reporting the system as infected. (when I look at the properties of the two files the status of the system is given as 'infected').

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.

• Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  
• Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  
• When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  
• When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
  • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    
  • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  
  
• Then click Finish.
  
• MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
  
• On the Scanner tab:
  • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
    
  • Then click on the Scan button.
  
  
• If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  
• The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  
• When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  
• Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
  
• Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  
• Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  
• When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  
• The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  
• Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Reagardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

I am using XP home edition with Norton's Anti Virus Corporate edition. I also use the windows firewall and windows defender.

I ran the MBAM test yesterday having read the tutorial in here;

One item found and deleted. I ran it today (after updating it too) and it found nothing.

I think my problem comes from not understanding Norton's. In it's real-time protection mode it found two trojans. Now in the histories section it reports them as;

The second one is still listed as infected and present in C:\WINDOWS\

I have searched for both of these files manually and with search (looking in hidden and system files too) but cannot find them. Am I just being too dumb and missing something here. I have read all of the help files with Norton's but still cannot figure out these history reports.

Hello again, I found this on the net ,,,,
Files called fixcamera.exe tsnp2std.exe and snp2std.exe install with the Speed S8800 USB 2.0 Webcam with Microphone. These files will generally be found in your c:\Windows folder. Because the manufacturer is located in China, some references to these files may appear in simplified Chinese. The files do need to be running when your webcam is in use. The don't necessarily need to be running all the time.


Suggestion:
Go to
Start > Run and type MSCONFIG.

Select the right hand tab called startup and just disable the item thats related to fixcamera.exe.

That way if you find it is important afterall you can quickly renable it by doing the reverse

Bang on. I have got a cheap usb camera with mic that I bought through ebay from china! Well done. I think that is it! Have unchecked the item under syetem configuration as you suggested.
