Hi

Sorry if this has already been covered - I've scanned the various topics already but can't find the same problem described.

Basically, when I turn on my Acer laptop, I get the Acer white screen, then the Windows loading screen with the scrolling lights, followed by the Windows 'splash screen'. I then get a green screen with the words 'Please wait' in the centre, and the Windows Vista logos at the bottom. After about 20 seconds, the computer 'clicks and whirs' a couple of times, then restarts. Each time the same thing happens.

I've attempted to boot up in safe mode, without success - I have 2 user accounts on my laptop - one is named and has no password, and the other is the admin accound, which is pasword protected - when booting in safe mode, I get the login screen, where it asks me for a password for my named accound, and won't let me log in with either account.

Can anyone advise?

Many thanks in advance

Forgot to add I'm using Vista Basic edition, which was preinstalled on my laptop, and I've neglected to make any recovery cds - lesson learnt there I fear.

On the Safe Mode screen...
Have you tried the Last Known Good configuration?
Have you tried the Repair your computer option?

Have you tried both passwords in both accounts?

**If you need a more detailed explanation, please ask for it. I have the Knack. **

'Last known good' doesn't work - get to exactly the same point before restarting.

Tried every possible combination of accounts and passwords in safe mode, with no sucess, and after about 40 secs the computer restarts and the cycle beginsa again.

Also tried every option in the 'F8' menu, with no joy.

The only option which seems to get me anywhere is the 'repair your computer', which lets me log in as admin and open command prompt.
I ran chkdsk, which reported no problems found, and also ran the memory check tool, which also reported everything as being fine.

Sorry if any of this seems vague - I can only access the internet at work at the moment

Burn this onto a CD, boot from it and run a virus scan from it:
