I have used the "find" command many times in excel with no problem.

I have a list of employee nemubers ( all numbers"

For example 91546

When I search for employee number 915646 it can not be found.

However it clear to me that number is right there ( second number in the column)

I get excel can find the data.

The formant for this coulmn is a number ( no deceimal)

What is happening ?

If not a typo, see if you can select a range of cells which includes what you want to find and try again.

One other check I'd do, is use Data > Autofilter on the column and see if what you look for appears in the dropdown list. If it does not, it suggests some format might be affecting it. Perhaps the numbers aren't integers? But I don't think so, because I just entered 915646.00001 in a cell and it found 915646.

Edited - on the Find dialog, click the Options button. One of those 3 settings might be different than you expected.

Make sure that when you are using the find command that you have your highlighted area on either the whole sheet, an individual cell, or the area you have selected should contain the data. As long as you have the correct info in the find area, you should 100% of the time find your data if it exists. Common issue is accidently having two cells highlighted at once when started a search, this will only look for the data in those two cells so double check you only have what you want to look into highlighted.
