In short, no and buying a laptop HD adapter and using the drive in the other computer will not do what you want either. You can transfer documents, settings, pics. and music, but the OS is where you run into problems. The other computer needs to have an OS. The USB cable would have to be a special transfer cable, or you could use a cross-over network cable, or as mentioned earlier, a 2.5 to 3.5 hard drive adapter
