Monitor Or Video Card ? getting an error mesage on screen

Hi all. I have a asus p4p800 deluxe motherboard, 250 gb seagate drive, 1gb ram, a radeon 9600 pro 256 ram, A Samsung monitor 913v. with Xp pro installed.

The problem I am having is that when I dont use my computer for awhile and come back to it the screen comes on with an error

Not optimum Mode Recomended mode 1280 x 1024 60 HZ

I have tried to update drivers for the video card but then I get a black screen. it also happens when I tried to reinstall the drivers for the monitor and lately the error comes on when I am using it. sometimes unplugging the monitor for awhile works. Oh and when I try to change the resouloution it becomes distorted. I had to reinstall all my software to a new drive old one bit the dust. The monitor worked Fine B4. just wondering if I forgot something or if the card is no good? I know a little about computers but not an expert like most of you people.

Your monitor is telling you it's not running at optimal resolution.

Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Display.
Click the "Settings" tab.
Drag the slider by "Screen Resolution" until it reads 1280 x 1024.

Let us know if that fixes it :thumbsup:

Yes I have tried that a number of times, just tried again and the warning comes up.

Alright, caveanimal.

Start -> Control Panel -> Display -> Settings Tab -> Advanced button on bottom -> Select the "Monitor" tab.

Now change the dropdown box to "60hz"

Hope that works :thumbsup:

Hello, caveanimal.

I'm out of ideas on that one then. Only thing you can really try is to try the monitor on a known working machine, and try the machine on a known working monitor. Chances are there's a problem with one or the other if you have things setup correctly and the monitor is still complaining.

I know with my Viewsonic, when you receive that message it will give you the option to press button number1 and you won't get the message anymore. Anything like that appear in you message?

no there is not a choice there is only a box with a question mark in it in the error message. This may be a dumb question but if you try to update a driver and it says it has the best one already, should you update it anyway....
