I've been confused for a while, about what a bulb of garlic is and what a clove is.

For a long time (my whole life) I thought a clove was a pack of garlic (you know, large pieces on the outside and small pieces on the inside, wrapped with a layer of "garlic skin"). However, I noticed that some people are calling them bulbs. They say that cloves are actually the individual pieces of garlic. What do you guys think?

P.S. How much raw garlic is bad for you?
P.S.S. Right now, I'm pretty sure that a bulb is a whole pack of garlic and that a clove is just an individual piece.

Thanks,
sharpe95

I had never heard of too much of a good thing being bad about garlic till I had so much garlic that my co workers were asking me about the aroma.

If I were playing who wants to be a millionaire riding in the cash cab, I would answer that the entire thing is the bulb. BC it looks like a bulb and the clove the petal or parts pulled from it bc they have that cloven look.
Hey but I am no whateveroligist.
BTW
Is garlic a fruit or a vegetable?

Thanks for the replies.

Garlic is part of a vegetable, sort of like the roots, but not really the roots. If you buy garlic and set it out at room temperature long enough, it'll sprout. You can even just plant it in a pot, and it should grow in a decent climate.

Although garlic may not always bring good luck, protect against evil or ward off vampires, Garlic is arranged in a head, called the "bulb," averaging about 2 inches in height and diameter consisting of numerous small separate cloves. Both the cloves and the entire bulb are encased in paper-like sheathes that can be white, off-white or pinkish.
