BleepingComputer.com: High System Usage

There is a program called "csrss.exe", which unknown to my knowledge has been using 90-100% of my CPU! This only appears to be a problem while playing games and if I am to exit the program I believe I will get a BSOD.

(I have exited a system program before and lets just say I was surprised at what happened!)

i have same thing running on my, its prob part of vista, but its only using 912k of ram and 0 cpu, at the time i made this reply,


but i do notice at times its up to like 60,000k,

csrss.exe is the main executable for the Microsoft Client/Server Runtime Server Subsystem. This process manages most graphical commands in Windows. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.

Note: The csrss.exe file is located in the folder C:\Windows\System32. In other cases, csrss.exe is a virus, spyware, trojan or worm!

According to Microsoft if Csrss.exe uses 100% of the CPU When you Right-Click an item in Explorer. Than your Your user profile is corrupted. Here is the link to the solution: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555021

Please note that this is a solution that was for XP and 2003. It might also applied for Vista. But read it carefully before doing it and do more research.

Nearly all user processes on the system must interact with csrss.exe when running. I'd suggest recreating the BSOD and getting the information from it to help troubleshoot this issue.
