BleepingComputer.com: Excel 2003 Problem

Excel 2003 problem....
Recently my computer was attacked by a Excel Macros Virus called X97M/Gydhex(ED) XF/Gydhex(ED). I cleaned the Virus using Mcafee Antivirus and since then When I open Excel 2003 and click the Tools tab I cannot see Macros option Under it. Please Help

You can access the Repair function in Office 2003 apps (like Excel) by going to the Help menu and selecting it there.

have tried all the above mentioned...... steps but still it does not work. I have even tried uninstalling and resintalling entire Microsoft Office but still it did not work...... at last I tried creating a new user Profile and it worked but it is not feasible............ please help me

Bit of a long shot but check your macro security level at Tools>Options>Security>Macro Security within Excel.

I assume your virus was totally eradicated.

Can you see Tools > Options > Security ?
If yes, your're good to go, just set it to some low level. It should allow you to see Macros on the Tools menu.

There's a place someplace to permit ALL menus to dropdown correctly, but I can't recall where it is. If it doesn't show all menu items (stupid default of MS), that might be your solution. I can't remember whether it's a Office property or excel

I tried changing the macro security level to low at Tools>Options>Security>Macro Security within Excel. but still the same

"Still the same" means it's just not on the menu?

Well, no idea, other than another long shot: what antivirus do you use? Does it watch Office macros? Perhaps macro access is totally disabled there? Check your settings. Reinstallation of Office should have fixed it really.

I just thought of something.

Please click View > Toolbars and enable VisualBasic toolbar.
Does that work?
All macros are in VBA, so perhaps enabling the toolbar will trigger something and it'll come back onto the menu.

If you can get to VBA, insert a module and let's check one thing and we can go from there by entering some trial code such as:

Sub test()
msgbox "hi"
end sub

Can you now see macros in the menu?

Still does not work....please some one help

I cannot see your computer, operating system, version of Office2003.
I cannot see what you run on your computer besides Office.
I cannot see whether your virus was cleaned out.

I cannot see your Excel, its menus, VBA, whether VB is installed.
I cannot see your other Office applications.

You have not answered ANY of the questions I asked. While I can promise NOTHING, some answers might help debug.
So here's one more: any similar problems in other Office applications such as Word or Outlook or PowerPoint?

Have you ran any registry cleaners since you got rid of the virus? A hijack this log would also help the diagnosis of what is happening to your pc.

computer, operating system is Windows XP,service pack 2
version of Office2003. is Office 2003 SP2
whether your virus was cleaned out....... Yes Mcafee Cleaned the Virus.

whether VB is installed........ Yes VB is installed


any similar problems in other Office applications such as Word or Outlook or PowerPoint?
No all other Office Applications are working fine......
