Hi All.

I recently have had this problem.

I start up as normal with the moving bars.

Then I log in.

Then I stay at the Welcome Screen for about a min.

Then I see a black screen for about 30 secs.

I can then use my computer.

Any suggestions.

2 suggestions:

1) Run Startup Repair. When you boot your system, just before the Windows splash screen shows, tap the F8 key repeatedly. This will bring up the Safe Mode menu - and at the top of that should be a selection to Repair your computer. Press the up arrow key to move to it, then press Enter. Follow the prompts.

2) Reinstall the video drivers for your system. Use the video drivers from the video chipset manufacturer's website (Intel, nVidia, AMD, SiS, etc) rather than those from the computer manufacturer's website. If you're having difficulty locating them, post back with the exact make and model of your system and we'll see what we can find.

It looks like a common problem out there. There seems to be a temporary solution:
Click Ctrl+Alt+Delete --> Start Task Manager --> Click File --> New Task (Run...) --> type 'explorer.exe' --> OK

Well I don't seem to have that Repair your Computer selection.

I removed the Dell Recovery Partition by accident.

Also I'm looking for a more permanent fix then something I have to put in over and over again.

Then, insert your Dell Operating System recovery disk and boot from that. It'll have a "Repair" option at the first screen you see.
If you don't have the OS disk, then you'll have to download a Startup Repair disk from here: http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vist...-disc-download/
