I am having connection problems that seem to be related to my firewall and/or a virus/trojan.

A couple of days ago my wife opened a file that led to an Antivirus 2008 link. She didn't download it (I think) but I ran Malwarebytes Anti Malware software just in case. It found some malware but not Antivirus 2008. Everything seemed to be ok for a while but then my internet connection stopped working. I used another pc to check for a hardware issue and it worked fine. I reinstalled my firewall (ZoneAlarm free) and that didn't work. I uninstalled ZoneAlarm and tried my connection just using Windows firewall and it worked.

Next I downloaded Comodo firewall but my computer won't boot up with it installed. I then tried Sunbelt firewall and again my connection stopped working after a few minutes. I tried changing my anti virus software in case there was a conflict. I changed from AVG to Avira but that didn't help my connection problems.

In between switching software I've done a few scans and a couple of trojans have come up so I'm concerned there is some malware behind all this.

Before I try another 20 different firewalls, or just make do with the Windows firewall, does anyone have any advice?

Thanks

Hi, there is an update that Microsoft released that messed up peoples internet connections if they had ZoneAlarm firewall. You can read more here.

Hi what Axephilic mentioned is correct if you read in the BC news there is guide for users using Zone Alarm,
which also can be found on the top of this page. Also note that other firewalls such as comodo can lead to internet connection promblems. Its not because of the firewall its because you or someone else messed with something that cause the internet connection. My dad messed around with Comodo and then internet didn't work but I got it back again...Its probably Zone alarm that you are having difficulties with I would suggust reading that topic I mentioned at the top of the page.
Hope that helps and good luck smile.gif

As it may not be best to not have an Update installed as generally they are security related ,I feel the info and BC Guide in this post may be beneficiary to you.
