Avoid 404 Redirection To Ad/search Pages? dead bookmarks won't die

Used to be you could use a dead bookmark remover to check your bookmarks for
404 errors. Now just about every page that has gone out of existence is being
redirected to search slop with a few search results based on the dead domain
name!!!

Does anyone know of an automated way of cleaning out this clutter from bookmarks?
