Hello:

In my continuing effort to understand and befriend my computer, I have been closely reading my system's help files. I've updated many of my drivers, and done all the updates for my software and hardware. In one of the windows/HP pavilion help files, is suggests checking each device to see if it is "installed twice" then the help file says to unistall both instances of the device, and allow windows to reinstall it upon start up. I have checked my devices and noticed that my processor and mouse are both listed twice. Should I follow that advice to unistall and then reinstall these items??? If so, how does one unistall both instances of a mouse when unistalling the first instance would disable the mouse itself? Thanks for any suggestions you can provide.

<<...when unistalling the first instance would disable the mouse itself?>>

I had that thought at one time , but it doesn't work that way.

Go ahead and uninstall them...both will work properly until reboot...at which time they will be uninstalled properly...and then reinstalled as XP boots up. The same thing happens when you uninstall video drivers...the function continues long enough for the user to reboot and then it starts all over.
