hey guys, im new to this site, i googled "computer forums" and this seemed like a good place, so hopefully ill get the answers i need lol.

well i bought Counter Strike Source yesterday, and it runs...barely. I was talking to one of my friends who knows a little about computers, and he said either my RAM or my graphics card would need to be upgraded.

I have a gig of ram, so he said that was fine.

i ran dxdiag and got all of my system specs, so ill put that here. Oh by the way, I have a Dell Inspiron 530s. I plan on doing a custom build in the future, but this was a gift so i cant really complain.

the rest of it was a whole bunch of bleep that didn't seem relevant to anything. sorry if all that was too much information.

basically, i just want to know what kind of graphics card should i get, and what information do i look at to know whether or not a card will be compatible for my system? im looking for something in the $100-$150 range, nothing too fancy.

If my knowledge of mobos is correct, I have one free PCIe 16x slot, so that should be where the graphics card goes right?

better yet, heres a pic of my motherboard. I had to take it at an angle though, because theres some big ass metal bar in the way, which is why theres a shadow in some of the pics.

You currently have intergrated graphics, which is the reason source won't play that well.

Is there any preference to the make of chipset?

For your budget you could probably get something like an 8600GT already overclocked.

8600GT Link

This should quite comfortably run Source as I can run it with a 7300LE.

Another thing to look at is your CPU. It is only a 1.6Ghz Dual Core. This could be another factor with some high end games, but it should still comfortably deal with source.

For the time being though, you could always lower the Video settings in Source.

Hope this helps,
Cornzey
