I have an old 250GB drive that I want to throw into my new computer. As mentioned a Dell Inspiron 530 with Vista Home Premium. It has a 500GB SATA drive to start.

Basically I need to know if Vista will recognize the new drive if I just plug it in and restart. Or will I need to mess with Vista settings. Also, I have info on the drive I need. Will any reformatting need to be done so the OS can see the drive? I really need the data on this hard drive so I'm hoping not.

I guess I'll start there -- and come back as needed.

THANKS!

Hello matius,

It should be OK, you shouldn't have to mess with Vista settings.
