I was helping a friend of mine build a computer when I realized a few things that I can't remember or don't know.

IDE= Older hard drives and CD/DVD-ROM

SATA = newer hard drives

EIDE = ??????

PATA= ????? (Is this floppy?)

SCSI = Expensive. Hot swappable.

Can some one confirm that for me?

Also do hard drives or RAM need drivers?

If hard drives do how would they function with out a previous file system or operating system on the drive? It doesnt seem logic unless it was stored in the BIOS or the ram...

No, but you need a driver for the hard drive bus. That is included wiyh the motherboard drivers
