my computer is acting iffy fickle, and more peculiar than i have ever seen it, particularly my internet. visiting some websites is very fast, but my google searches hang forever, and never complete, the same is with some other functions and websites.

absolutely nothing.
which of these would most likely fix my problem:
a refistry fix
a spyware scan
or a virus scan
can u give me some links for some good programs that do these?

You are using no security products? No anti virus? no firewall? no anti spyware?
If this statement is correct then the system is most likely heavily infected. None of the tools you list will be sufficient to help solve the problem. A virus scan may do something, but to be honest I would advise you follow the steps at http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic34773.html
