 I am computer challenged and I am having a problem when I click on a icon. It only shows the hour glass icon and goes off. The icon that I click on never comes up. It does it with a lot of icons on my computer. I tried to remove and reinstall Java. But the error message comes up missing msi.dll file. Try removing and reinstalling this file. I can't figure it out. When I ran Regcure it said I have 752 errors. Of course all they fixed was 15. Can someone help me? I really would appreciate it.

hi TRU2AU, and welcome to BleepingComputer.
These are Windows Installer files and may have become corrupted. How long has this problem been going on? If this has started within the last couple of weeks try doing a System Restore. Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> System restore. When this opens make sure that "Restore my computer to an earlier time" is chosen, and click on Next>. The dates appearing in bold are the dates that you can restore to, click on the date that you want and then click Next> to start the System Restore. This may take a long time to complete, and when it is done it will restart your computer. When the computer restarts and you have logged on as the administrator a Restoration Complete page will appear, click on OK to complete the process. Regcure is a registry cleaner. The usefulness of cleaning the registry is highly overrated and can be dangerous. In most cases, using a cleaner to remove obsolete, invalid, and erroneous entries does not affect system performance but it can result in "unpredictable results". Unless you have a particular problem that requires a registry edit to correct it, I would suggest you leave the registry alone. Using registry cleaning tools unnecessarily or incorrectly could lead to disastrous effects on your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again. For routine use, the benefits to your computer are negligible while the potential risks are great. -------------------- May we please have a little chlorine in the gene pool?
