Any "plugged in" item of value should be on a surge protector, unless you have a lot of cash, or very good insurance otherwise, and don't mind the down time while you wait to get new equipment. I also don't recommend plugging in more than two items to any surge unit.
Even plugging in through a surge unit may not save you from a direct hit - lightning or otherwise. One can only be circumspect and take all the precautions available. In some areas, local power companies will also install an exterior surge unit. They don't usually provide a full guarantee either. Just partial coverage. -------------------- Find a path?

There is certainly no harm in investing in a surge protector. In my opinion best to err on the side of caution. While I imagine the regulator could absorb some of the surge the modem would be defenceless. It has been my experience that modems are fragile at best, failing after a sudden loss of power or surge. -------------------- Regards
