The computer is very laggy. When I use Firefox and only have that open is lags when opening a new tab. And the pc is making loud noises.

Hi smile.gif

There are a few programs starting with Windows that can be started manually when you need them. The following fix is optional, if you want a program to start with Windows, don't fix that line with HijackThis.

Right-click on HijackThis and click Run as administrator. Perform a scan and put a check next to the following items (if present):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [hpsysdrv] c:\hp\support\hpsysdrv.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KBD] C:\HP\KBD\KbdStub.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [OsdMaestro] "C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\On-Screen OSD Indicator\OSD.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SnapfishMediaDetector] "C:\Program Files\Snapfish Media Detector\SnapfishMediaDetector.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Software Update] "c:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NeroFilterCheck] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\Lib\NeroCheck.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe Reader Speed Launcher] "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\Reader_sl.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ElbyCheckAnyDVD] "C:\Program Files\SlySoft\AnyDVD\ElbyCheck.exe" /L AnyDVD
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AnyDVD] C:\Users\Adam\AppData\Local\Temp\IXP000.TMP\AnyDVD.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] "RUNDLL32.EXE" C:\Windows\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvMediaCenter] "RUNDLL32.EXE" C:\Windows\system32\NvMcTray.dll,NvTaskbarInit
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [Launcher] %WINDIR%\SMINST\launcher.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MsnMsgr] "C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger\MsnMsgr.Exe" /background
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ehTray.exe] C:\Windows\ehome\ehTray.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [AlcoholAutomount] "C:\Program Files\Alcohol Soft\Alcohol 120\axcmd.exe" /automount
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WMPNSCFG] "C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\WMPNSCFG.exe"
O4 - Global Startup: Snapfish Media Detector.lnk = C:\Program Files\Snapfish Media Detector\SnapfishMediaDetector.exe

Close all programs except HijackThis and click on Fix checked.

Some more tips on how to speed up your computer can be found here > http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiem...owcomputer.html

Let me know whether there's any improvement.

So, I did that and followed the other guide and it was still being laggy, and so, I reformatted the drive. It does seem to be better. smile.gif
