My daughter re-set her password last night on her HP Vista computer. This morning when she went to log on, the password that she thought you entered is coming up incorrect. She contacted HP and they told her "that the only way to recover the password is to re-set her computer back to the default mode, which would delete what she has added the system".

Does anyone know if this statement is true?? If she has added program (anti-virus, ms office, etc.) those programs will be lost, or is it just the data that she has put on the hd since she bought it.

Thanks

I see that 10 people have viewed my topic. Does no one know if it is possible to re-set the password on Vista?

I can understand that some might think this request is questionable, but I promise you we need your help. She is locked out of her computer. She uses this computer each day while teaching at her preschool and we need some kind of answer, please.

It is against the policy of BleepingComputer to provide information on methods to reset or bypass passwords. Though your question is most likely legitimate, there are others who may read this topic and use the information for less savory reasons. It is for these reasons we do not provide this type of information.
Reference: BleepingComputer Board Rules

Re-setting to default mode returns the system to the same state as when it was purchased. All data and programs added afterwards will be deleted.
