Hi,

I hope someone can help me with this major prob

Couple nights ago shutdown PC everything fine then then next morning booted up and the desktop background has changed to:

''Warning Spyware detected on your computer! Install antivirus or spyware remover to clean computer''

now it seems like somebody went on the Internet while I was asleep and got the PC hijacked and its all messed up now (I'm hunting down who's responsible as I type)

Now I've never had this before but straightaway there are some suspicious things going

1) Desktop background changed (and cannot change back to previous)
2) a program called ''Antivirus XP'' is installed
3) PC keeps rebooting over and over again with the the odd flash of blue screen of death

I've already run my most up-to-date Spybot, Ad-aware, & AVG all of which detected a load of stuff

With the scanning done and all the trojans etc. deleted (or at least I think they are) the problem still exists

Her is my copy of HJT log to seee if anyone can spot any issues

Cheers. thumbup2.gif

I have moved your Topic that includes a HijackThis log here to the Misplaced HJT Logs forum. You posted your log in a forum not intended for HijackThis logs analysis and probably missed the directions we provide to those who require assistance. We can only allow topics with such logs in the HijackThis Logs and Malware Removal forum. This restriction is to ensure you get the best help available, from those who specialize in malware anlaysis and removal. It also should prevent you from receiving ineffective or even potentially dangerous advice, whether well meaning or not.

Prior to posting a HJT log, we ask that you please read and follow all instructions in the pinned topic titled Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis Log. Following the steps in this Guide will allow the HJT Team to quickly help you with specific fixes for what may remain on your system.

Please complete all the steps in the Guide. If you have performed some of them already, then just continue with the next. There are instructions for downloading and running Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) which will create a hijackthis log for you, or automatically download and install the most current version of HijackThis if it's not already installed on your computer.

Please note that it is important that Deckard's System Scanner be run and a log created while in normal mode. If you run it and create your log while in safe mode, you will be asked to redo it again properly. When you have completed those steps, start a new topic in the HijackThis Logs and Malware Removal forum as directed in the Guide to post a new log.

Please DO NOT post any more logs to this topic, or post a log again in the wrong forum.

The Misplaced HJT Logs forum is strictly a holding area where the BC Staff can assist you with preparations for and to properly post your log. If you have a question or encounter a problem in the Prep Guide, please do post back to this topic; that is what it is here for.

When your new HJT log is posted in the proper forum, please reply to this topic with a link to your new topic. Once that is done, a Member of the HJT Team will analyze your log and assist you with step by step instructions to clean your computer or otherwise advise what needs to be done.

Thanks for your cooperation and good luck.
The BC Staff

Sorry for posting incorrectly, wont happen again.

I've been following the prep guide and encountered a problem with DSS

When I start up DSS from the desktop it goes through and creates the restore point and backs up registry but seems to freeze on the 'cleaning temp files' section, CPU usage stays on 100%, and nothing seems to happen, just stops after 5 green bars. I left it to run for over 2 hours and there was no further progress.

Any ideas or alternatives to DSS?

Oh and ran Kaspersky online scannr and well found 30 infected objects under 'critical areas', saved a log for this if u need to see it

Thanx.

Hello neo147,

I would suggest running a temp cleaner first. You can try ATF and see if it does the trick.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune & save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main "Select Files to Delete" choose: Select All.
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
  • If you use Firefox browser click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
  • If you use Opera browser click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
  • Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
Note: On Vista, "Windows Temp" is disabled. To empty "Windows Temp" ATF-Cleaner must be "Run as an Administrator".

Once you're done, please follow garmanma's directions for posting in the proper area.
If you are still having difficulty with getting DSS to run properly, please post back here.

Regards,

Hi Neo147 & welcome,

Gal asked me to have a peek here. She will be busy for a couple days & may not be able to reply in a timely fashion.

Can you try this with dss please?
First make sure it is on your desktop.
If not on desktop please place it there.

Click start> run> copy/paste in this line:

"%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /config

Hit OK.
Click OK.
New window pops up with a bunch of choices.

UNcheck "clean temps"
Hit "scan" & OK.
Let scan finish...
Once done please post the "main.txt" and "extra.txt" logs as instructed previously.
If posting new thread -- please post link here so I can find you. smile.gif

If dss hangs up anywhere else -- please let me know where.

Thanks smile.gif

Hi and thank you for the reply Blender.

I did what you requested after unchecking 'clean temp files' and DSS worked fine and created the logs needed.

I made sure I followed the prep guide and have now posted a new/updated topic.

Here is the link: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic155025.html

Thanks again Blender. thumbup2.gif
