I have just installed Broadband and have a wired router, which has a "powerful firewall - giving 24/7 security". Is it advisable to also install one on my PC, or could this give conflicts by effectively having 2 firewalls operating at the same time. If the recommendation is yes, what firewall is best (preferably free)?

Geoff

Hello geoffo,

The router firewall is mainly to protect from unauthorised access to your computer or network however it is not 100% safe. If someone was to bypass the router firewall, they would then have complete access to any unprotected systems on the network.

While no security set up can offer complete protection, having a hardware firewall (router) and a software firewall can improve your protection.

I would advise using comodo firewall http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/
Regards,

Alan.
