Help
I have a Gigabyte GA-K8U-939, AMD Athlon 64 3200+, 512MB DDR3200, Vista Ultimate machine. Every time I boot up the machine with a SATA drive of any size plugged in, the machine blue screens with the 0x0000009c code. I have changed the memory and the CPU, however I still got the same problem. I have also updated the BIOS to the latest version. Any ideas?

Is this a new setup or and old setup where this just started to happen?
0x0000009c Machine_Check_Exception Error can indicate a problem with:
-overclocking
-bad hardware e.g. RAM, CPU, MB, ...
-Hard Drive problems
-Power supply problems
What mode is the hard drive in, RAID, IDE, ACHI?
Try changing the hard drive mode to RAID and loading the appropriate drive in Vista and see if that helps.

You mention that this happens whenever you plug a SATA drive in.
How are you plugging the SATA drive in?
If it's in a SATA port, do you have the SATA drivers loaded?
If it's in a USB port, have you tried other ports?

The SATA ports are onboard. They are set as IDE, I have it set this way so I can pop the case off and hook up SATA drives for imaging. If I hook these same SATA drives to any USB port with a SATA to USB converter, they work fine. I installed Windows Vista on the machine and it worked great for about a month, then this started happening. I have tried using different RAM, CPU, Power Supply, and I am not overclocking, so maybe it is the motherboard.

I'd suggest first looking at your motherboard drivers - in particular those that are controlling the SATA ports (in my mobo I've got 2 different controllers for the SATA ports).
