I've got a Dell Vostro 400 with Windows Vista and I have an HP Pavillion with Windows 98. I'm trying to connect the two with one cable because I don't have a router or anything like that to connect them through so I'm trying to connect them directly to each other, but the only thing I have to connect them is with the Ethernet cable that I have, but on the back of the HP Pavillion there is no place to plug this in. The only thing to plug in on the back of the HP Pavillion is the phone line plugin, which I also have a wire for that, but then on the back of the Vostro 400 there is no spot for that.

What do I need to do/buy to connect them?

You need a NIC (Network Interface Card) for the computer and also a Cross over cable. Regular cat5 will not connect the 2 together.
