When you try to access IE or Firefox, what is the error message you get?
Are you sure you have internet connection? Are you running wireless or right from the modem?

hi,,,,, try and send a ping to check if your connected to the internet,,, type in,,,,, cmd,,,,,, into the start menu search box then open comand prompt then copy and past this command,,,,,,,, ping www.bbc.co.uk ,,,,,,,,,,,, just the letter's not the commers
then press enter and see if it sends back,,,, if it says timed out then there is no internet connection

Pinging www.bbc.net.uk with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 212.58.253.67: bytes=32 time=28ms TTL=119
Reply from 212.58.253.67: bytes=32 time=25ms TTL=119

Reply from 212.58.253.67: bytes=32 time=27ms TTL=119

Ping statistics for
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 25ms, Maximum = 28ms, Average = 26ms

it should say something like this if its conected
good luck.

yes it says there is no problem with the connection, it is using a linksys modem, and it is wireless not directly connected to modem. also the computer came with the vista basic so i say it is legit. the norton said a remote computer was blocking the internet connection and we realize the address was the same computer so we thought it was norton blocking it has always been a piece of crap always uploading new updates continuously so we uninstalled it, now still won't go on. Crap!!

i copied firefox to a cd from my other computer and installed it onto the laptop and it won't fully install till it goes on the internet so there is no error message, and explorer says no problem with internet connection, when you click to go on it goes right to the typical screen saying cannot find internet or whatever. we also plugged it directly into the phone line where the other computer is attached to and still same crap!
