BleepingComputer.com: Vista Will Not See The Dvd

This is an HP running Vista basic. The comp runs fine but it will not see the DVD. The HD is SATA and is C: the removable card readers are there as E: through H: the dvd does not show up at all.

I have tried the DVD in another computer and it works fine. I have tried a brand new CDRW and the computer will not see it either. Again I tested it in another computer and it is fine.

I am guessing that the problem is in the assigning of drive letters.

The Bios sees the drives and labels them correctly.

The hardware manager sees rhe drives but indicates an error.

Disk manager doesn't see the drives.

Please help

While you wait for someone with a bit more knowledge about this than I have, you may want to try removing the upper and lower filters to see if that restores it.

Funny the one from the Microsoft site did not work. It was almost the same but said to delete the whole key.

One thing to add! Always create a restore point before working with the registry.
