My computer Start up menu has many unnessary items selected for start up and I cannot deselect these items.

I log in as administrator and system configuration indicates "selective start up". I have selected "normal start up and proceeded

to Start up tab and unchecked the item that I did not want to run. Upon selecting " O K ", I get a system reject advising I do not have

authority to make change, that I need to log in as administrator(which I have already done). My computer OS is MS XP Home.
