Ok...first of all my laptop is only a few months old and it is Windows Vista.
I normally do not shut down my laptop, but a few days ago I did for the entire night. The next day I tried to start up my computer and after I logged in to get to my desktop screen, it locked on the welcome screen. I tried pressing on other keys and ctrl+alt+del to see if anything would happen, but nothing so finally I held down on the power until it turned off. It would start to boot up then get locked again and it would go through the same process. Only once in a while will it start up all together and go pass the welcome screen. Only just a few minutes ago was I able to get online. It does look like my computer reset itself. I don't have access to all of my applications and process. Like I can format a disc so I can save files.
I ran mcafee for viruses and it showed up nothing. Does anyone know what I can do?

hi,,,, just another quik point,,,,, i would not leave a laptop on permanently as they tend to get very hot as all the components are packed in tighter than a desktop and by nature all the fans are a lot smaller, heat kills parts in a pc,,, modern pc's are a lot better now but the heat will still probley cause undue ware and dammage.
good luck with your problem.

hi again,,, have you looked in event viewer to see if there's anything that can help there,,,, just type event viewer into start menu search box and click on E/V,,,,,, post back with what it says,,,,,, good luck

I'd suspect the number of errors in the User Profile Service as the reason for this. It could be that the registry was writing stuff to the user profile keys when you forced the shutdown (but that's just a guess).

I'd suggest creating another profile and then transfer over your data/documents. Once that's done, delete the old profile.

You'll use Windows Explorer to transfer your data/documents. To use it, go to Start and type in "Windows Explorer" (without the quotes) and press Enter.

Here's a tutorial on how to use Windows Explorer: http://windows.about.com/od/windowsforbegi...ss/open_box.htm
