<<It said that it works without the IDE and...>>
That's not what I got out of the link you supplied.
Of course...the optical (and any other) drive gets power without the IDE connector...but it cannot function properly within Windows or read/interpret any CDs.
The fact that it gets power...is only half of the process of being useful.
As for your assertion that your drive "powers up" without a PS connection...I highly doubt that. It probably doesn't appear in the BIOS (because it has no power), it may appear in Windows (because of the IDE connection)...but I doubt if it functions properly. You can always test it by putting a disc in.

Sorry I mistyped, You are right, It only powers up with the Molex connected and IDE disconnected, I don't get why it would just stop working with IDE plugged in, Maybe I have a jumper set wrong?

If you look at the rear of the drive with the top up, is the notch in the male plug at the top center?
Does the data cable have a key that only allows it to be connected one way at both ends of it? Some IDE cables only have this key at the motherboard side making it possible to accidentally connect it upside down.
I have seen one floppy drive that was manufactured with the socket installed upside down, but not any optical drives. The red stripe should always be on the right side as you look at it from the rear with the top up.

Yes you are right, It is on the right, I was looking at it from the front view. It also has a key only allowing it to be plugged in 1 end.
