Opening Locked DB's and .mdb files

Opening Locked DB's and .mdb files having problems!

I am running on a brand new IBM Thinkpad with XP and MS Office Pro 2003.
For some reason i am having trouble opening a database in access with a .mdb extension. Also I received other files with .ldf and .mdf extensions. What are these?
The DB's seem to have been built with digitech software or something like that. When I try to open them all I get is

WARNING

unrecognized database formatt 'D:\(db name).mdb'

can someone please help me convert these or open them.

.mdb
.ldf
.mdf

ldf is a library definition file
mdf is a database backup file for restoring a database.
mdb opens with Microsoft Access.(or OpenOffice)

Most likely this digitech software created the database in MS-SQL

.mdf = Master Database File - SQL's version of MDB

I'm unsure as to why Access2K3 wouldn't be able to open the .mdb though

I still can't open these files. I don't know if they were created with something else and saved as mdb files or what? Also, does anyone know how to unlock an LDB file?
Need these for work if anyone can help!

only way to unlock a SQL Locked file is to shut down the SQL Service. but don't use my method i'm sure there is better/easier ways.

One more thought!

Shouldn't you be able to atleast OPEN an LDB but no change it?
I can't even open the stupid thing!

found out that this stuff was created with microsoft.net, but still can't seem to do anything with it. If I foud a way to put it on a link of some kind would anyone be interested in downloading and trying to open it?

You cannot open .ldb files.
It is a file which holds a lock on your .mdb file.
Lock stays put if you don't exit legally, i.e. crash, reboot.
When Access opens an .mdb file, it immediately writes .ldb with user's name etc.
It won't release the lock unless the user gets out.
Important in multiuser environment :thumbsup:

If you're the ONLY user, try deleting the .ldb file and .mdb should then open.
