BleepingComputer.com: Laptop Too Slow With Vista Business

I have a HP laptop with 4GM Ram (though windows Vista 32 bit reconises 3+ GB only). For few days my laptop has become extremely slow.
My old Ibm laptop (win xp) with 1 gb ram seems much fatser than HP one.

I ran live care scanner and adaware to find out if any spyware i there. i did not find any spyware in the results.
I have Mcaffe running as antivirus.

it seems that too many services are running.



I will appreciate if anyone can help me to do something to make my laptop faster.

I'd first suggest going to Start and typing "perfmon /report" (without the quotes) and pressing Enter. This will generate a report with some comments on your system. Please let us know what errors show up.

Yesterday I did this report on a brand new HP laptop with Vista Home Premium 32 bit. It didn't show any errors, but had many, many Information items that indicated that the system had performance issues with the hard drive and memory. I suggested that the customer return it.

Another thing to look at is the Task Manager...Processes tab. Right click on the Task Bar at the bottom of your screen and select "Task Manager", then click on the Processes tab. Once there, click on the View menu item, then on Select columns. Scroll down and put a check mark next to "IO Reads" and click on OK to accept the change. Then expand the window so you can view all the columns. Don't forget to click on the button to Show processes from all users.

What you'll be looking for is numbers that are very high in relation to the others in that same column. To make this easier, you can double click on the column header to sort that column by size. Let us know if you find anything that seems to be unusual.
