BleepingComputer.com: Pci Express Question

Hey guys,

I don't know if this is a stupid question:

There is this combo promo on Newegg.com where they are giving a PCI express 2.0 VGA card, but with a Mobo that has only PCI express 1.0
So would the VGA work at PCI express 2.0?? or can the PCI Express controller be upgraded to version 2.0?? Don't know what to do, since I really need the full power of the PCI express 2.0

Hope someone will help me out.

The EVGA, ASUS, and the Biostar all have PCI-E 2.0.

OK, but my question still remains, for example can I buy the following VGA card:

??? Just a curious question, that's all...

Ya I agree. Get a better motherboard from a more reliable company such as Asus, Gigabyte, or MSI.

Anyway, to answer your question, the slots are interchangeable. You can put a PCI 2.0 card in a X16 (1.0) slot. In fact, I'm running an ATI HD 3870 on a board with a PCIx16 slot. It works perfectly fine, and I read a review that the 2.0 slot only gives you an average of maybe 2-3 more FPS in games.

If you're looking for crossfire capabilities, you'll want a better board anyway. The other slot only runs in X4 mode, and that can really bottleneck a graphics card. I probably wouldn't even be worth having two graphics cards in that board.
