It could be a corrupt video driver - but a look at a couple of things may help identify it:
1) Go to Start and type in "perfmon /report" (without the quotes) and press Enter. This will generate a report on the performance of your system - and will start with the problem areas that it identifies.
2) Go to Start and type in "compmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter. This will open the Computer Management console, where you can check the other 2 things:
- Click on the + sign next to Reliability and Performance, then on the + sign next to Monitoring Tools, then click on Reliability Monitor. This will list the things that have happened over the history of your system. Take a look at the errors and see if they coincide with the screen freezes.
- Then click on the + sign next to Event Viewer, then on the + sign next to Windows Logs. Check both the Application and the System log files for errors around the time of the freezes. Let us know the details of any errors that you find.
