BleepingComputer.com: Properties Displaying Wrong Cpu Speed

I'm a little confused here.. When I check properties on my computer, it displays my AMD 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ speed as 1gz, when I KNOW for a fact it's 2ghz. This only started happening today.. I've ran a diagnostic tool and it displays it as 2ghz, but when I check on sites such as can you RUN it, it says it's still at 1ghz.. I'm running on a pc though, which is the part that confuses me. I've had a few problems with some games and I'm guessing this is the problem. PLEASE HELP!!

Try downloading CPUID, and post back what it finds.

edit: i noticed you can right click and click between the two processors both of which displaying 1ghz apiece (thus the 2ghz i thought)

but i'm still really confused as to why it displays 1ghz in properties..

The AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ is Not Dual processor, so i dont think you can "click between the two processors ". Should be dual core(someone correct me if i'm wrong).

Do you have AMD Cool 'n' Quiet enabled? Maybe that's why it's saying 1GHz?

well if you right click you can select processor #0 and processor #1 so idk.. i'm not sure if i have it enabled or not, how do I check?

I'd also like to mention that after restarting my computer my processor (this worked ONCE) would display the correct speed and the game ran the way it should.. now that I restarted it again it's back to the same thing..
editedit: after restarting my computer and immediately checking system properties it would display 1.8 ghz, then if i closed reopened each time it would just jump around from anywhere between 1.5 and 2. if I immediately start playing the game after the computer starts, it will run fine, and cpuid displays 2ghz, but ONLY when i check properties immediately after starting up the computer..

yeah someone suggested that, i did my best to turn it off idk if i did or not.. but it only started happening in the last few days, which is why i'm concerned

I'm running windows xp home edition sp2. When you check properties in my computer right after it starts, it's still 'starting + loading apps up', (so the processor is working), that's probably why it's @ 2GHz.

After the computer has started up all its apps, it's idling, so the processor speed drops back to 1GHz.

I believe if the game is running and it takes a lot of processor power (or any other processor-intense apps), the clock speed will go up.


That's what's on my computer, anyway.
