I installed AVG 8 about 2 weeks ago and everything worked fine. Until I try to download the latest Update. I get an error saying:

General Error - not enough free memory, write error.

Here's the image of it:

Is there anyway to fix it, thanks.

Hi,
How much free space do you even have left on your computer?
If you have minium amount of space left that might be the reason why you can't update. If you still have alot of space left on your hardrive I would uninstall Avg 8.0 and reinstall it and see if it works.

With Regards,
Extremeboy

How do I check how much free space I have left? If I don't have enough what should I do? I don't have many programs running.
I have tired to uninstall/install, but it does not help.
-Thanks

Hi,
To check how many free space you have left on your computer.
Go to My Computer
Right click on your local drive which is usually C and click propeties
Under the General tab there will be a pie graph showing how much free space you have left.

If you have limited space you need to clear up/delete some junk

REgards,
Extremeboy

Okay, I just checked my free space, and I cleared 4Gb using the Disk Clean up. But I still have 36.6Gb of space left. And I still can't update for some reason.
-Thanks

In addition, it might be wise to kill some of the applications you have running before updating AVG, as they may be taking up more RAM than one suspects.
Cheers,
John

Thanks for all the help.

But it is still not working. I tried uninstalling and and reinstalling it. I tried updating just as I turn on the computer. Nothing is working. I don't know what else to do.

Directly from AVG forums:

It appears that something interupted or corrupted the update that should have taken your system to v8.0.138

I think a Repair may be in order... at least for now...

1. Download the latest AVG Free installation package from [free.grisoft.com]
2. Run the AVG Free install file
3. Choose the Repair option and follow the setup wizard
4. Restart your computer then test...

Other suggestions I've seen include:
1: Turn off your firewall temporarily. Update. Turn firewall back on.
2: Defrag Hard Drives
3: Download updates from http://free.avg.com/ww.download-update Then go to Tools> Update from Directory.

His version of AVG is the old one and this topic has not been answer for more than a month I wonder if the promblem is resolved. He is using version 8.0.100.

@rtrt2889
I would suggust you uninstall your AVG and install the new version from filehippo.com or download.com
See if that resolves your promblem I am sorry that I didn't reply for such a long time, I didn't see this topic for some reason....
