Writing To Ntfs Drives In Slax is a first time linux user

I have this little problem where Windows locks up when trying to copy out files, so someone suggested that I use a linux live cd as an OS to do my backup. Now I have another problem where I can't write files to my NTFS formatted external hard drive. When I try to change permissions for the drive, it gives me a "could not change permissions for" error. The thing is, my desktop's hard drive is also formatted in NTFS, but Slax can apparently read and write files to this drive. Help?

there is something built into the new slax (not sure about old versions) that enables this its called ntfs-3g,

it should be run just as that goto run and type :

ntfs-3g

it should give you access to be able to enable write and read access to the drives

on a note though, slax dosent have the newest version of ntfs-3g, and on their most recent changelog they listed this:

* Fix: In certain, rare circumstances, any area of the ntfs volume, except the ntfs boot sector, could get corrupted. The chance for this to happen is higher for close to full disk utilization and using one of the more uncommon, less than 4096 byte cluster sizes. The cluster size is logged under the /var/logs directory usually in the 'messages' or 'daemon.log' log file, as the blksize mount parameter. All stable releases have this issue since version 1.328. Upgrade is strongly recommended from all ntfs-3G releases.

so id proceed with caution as they have admitted to have corruption problems (i personally have never had an issue and have been using ntfs-3g on ubuntu for a while, but just make sure you understand the risks)

Thanks. I found out that Slax already supports ntfs-3g and that the permissions problem was caused by a mount issue. It's writing to the hard drive now.
