PC suddenly stopped functioning correctly. Fan is loud, but no POST and no lights. Have swapped out everything except processor and motherboard. These are my next parts to swap.

Hi Smittie, and welcome to BleepingComputer.

Let me see if I understand what you have written, your fan runs when you turn on the computer but that's it?

If it is a name brand what make and model is it? If it is a custom build what is the make and model of the motherboard?

This could be a overheating issue. Is there a build up of dust on the heat sink and fan assembly on the CPU?

Is the heat sink and fan firmly attached to the CPU?

Does the tray in the optical drive open after you turn on the computer?

I was asking has anyone seen this scenario before. The PC is a Compaq Presario SR1230NX desktop. Its two years old. Sorry so vague on the previous post.

I have (unfortunately)...and my situation involves 2 new motherboards.

I've come to the conclusion that my situation is either CPU or motherboard (I get no POST, but all fans work, LEDs work, no signal to monitor), after replacing the RAM and checking everything (CPU, thermal paste, front panel connectors)100 times.

You might want to look at some of these posts: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=N...G=Google+Search

Several of the ones that I've read who have solved this...had PS issues of some sort, sometimes rather quirky ones. That's where I started my attempts to troubleshoot.

...and what fan...is loud? There are several on a system.

Louis
