In trying to remove some factory installed stuff [ chicony, Napster] I had to tinker & become administrator, or I thought. Somewhere along the way I messed up. Task manager is no longer found anywhere except in startup program permissions. Now it says this is Administrator controlled and won't allow me in. I can't get anywhere to change anything. It's my fault,I did it. I did get rid of some un-needed prorgams.
Please help.

Click Start, search for Run, then type regedit in it.
Go to, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
You will see a Dword value named, DisableTaskMgr there. Its value must be changed to 1. Edit it and change its Dword value to 0 and it should work fine. Hope that helps

Thanks for the help. I think it did the trick. I had no idea Vista is like an ant hill .Most of us never see what's under the surface,or know what to do once we find it.
Best regards,

You are welcome. Glad it solved your problem. LoL. This is not just about Vista actually. This used to happen to my uncle's Windows XP a lot.
