Well each program has their own way, it depends on what you like.
I think AVG is good except the false positives. Macaffe is also good. I don't think there's a good or bad program.
There all good, but I prefer others because of how they work and their protection method.

I think AVG 8 is SLOW & BLOATED.
Would recommend Avast or Avira.

worst free - avg 8.0
best if you plan to pay - kaspersky
worst if you plan to pay - mcafee or norton (cant make up my mind on this one lol)

I found that avira is the best freeware but the best overall in my opinion is Nod32
