Creating Favourites Help Please!

I have just bought a HP Compaq Laptop with Vista Home Premium. I am so used to having had XP Pro with the nice list of Favourites! How can I create something similar please on the new set up? I am not at all good with computers having been born at the wrong time I guess, so please forgive what might seem a very mundane question!

In Internet Explorer 7 there is a gold star on the far left side of the browser below the "Back" and "Forward" buttons.
Use that to access your Favorites.

Next to the gold star is a green + sign on top of a gold star.
Use that to organize your favorites.
