I just put together a system, and finally got to installing Vista. The first thing I noticed is how slow the vista instalation was running. It takes around 3-5 minutes between screens. I'm not sure whether this is normal or not, but it certainly seems odd.
That's not my problem though. I have recieved the error code 0x80070017 disk error in D drive during the vista instillation. During step 2, expanding files, it simply froze at 0% for an hour, before giving me the error message.
I have been unable to find consistant information about this error. Many people on forums have had gotten this from burning the vista instillation onto a disk and having burn errors, but I had purchased a Oem disk from Newegg. Only a couple of people I found had this error, and they found no good solution.
Currently, I am reinstalling after cleaning the disk thoughly, with the same results. It only says 0%, and refuses go farther.
The hardware I am currently using:
e8400 Core Duo
790i Ultra motherboard
9800 gx2 NVidia
A single 2 Gig stick of OCZ DDR3 ram http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820227297
(I have a second stick, but heard that I should hold off installing it until Vista is installed. My motherboard set the Memory timings automatically to 5-5-5-20. Those who reviewed on newegg bumped it up to at least 8-7-7-24 with my same mobo, so could improper timings cause vista install to stall and crash?)
500 Gig HDD connected w/ sata
DVD burner connected w/ sata (I got it on sale, not a name brand. Maybe just a bad player, but does read the disk (but maybe not well enough?))
This is actually my first build. I did research on hardware, but can't prepare too much for a bad vista install. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.
