when does the update stop on AVG 7.5 and will it still be good to use after the updates stop?

If your looking for a good on-demand scanner you may want to try MBAM. You can download it from this link http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe
or this link
http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Ant...ware_d5756.html
I haven't used the protection module, but the scanner is very effective and fast.

It is also important to note that, as this specific thread is discussing antivirus programs Malawarebytes is not an antivirus program
(Also where links are concerned, it is useful, helpful, and a good practice to show from where the link (exe) came so that links can, if necessary, be clarified or verified by the thread reader or user).

Thanks for the clarification. MBAM is not a virus program, but it can locate and remove some viruses (this recommendation did not anwer the question of antivirus program)/ Not all virus' programs are compatible with all OS. I guess I assume others would check that before downloading any program, be it an AV, AS, word processor, etc, but assumptions are what lead to problems. I can't edit the link at this point, but in the future I will be cognizant of your recommendation. Thanks

I think Avast's scans took way too long, so I would just go back to avg 7.5 until the updates stop which is 12/12/08
If you want a good anti-spyware program I recommend Superantispyware, or spyware terminator.
