Ewido? Avg Clash.

I have just downloaded AVG 8 after uninstalling AVG 7.5.
I cannot install AVG 8 as it keeps telling me that it has detected ewido anti-spyware or ewido anti-malware on my PC. "As protection is now included in order to proceeed with installment you will have to uninstall this".
I have SpyBot Search and Destroy, Spyware Blaster, Super Anti Spyware Prefessional, and Ad Aware all installed. I have read here that there are problems with Spyware Blaster. Is this the "ewido" software the warning is referring to? If not, which one is it, please?
My thanks in advance.

Ewido was the previous name given to AVG Anti-spyware (AVG bought the Ewido company a couple of years ago)
Did you ever have AVG Anti-spyware installed, if so there may be traces of it left either as program fragments or registry entries.
Possibly you could do a search for such and, if found, delete them.

AVG AntiSpyware (formerly ewido) is being discontinued.
AVG8 and AVG Internet Security (the paid version) now incorporates Anti-Spyware and Anti-Rootkit as part of its package.
AVG Anti-Spyware ends at 7.5
AVG FAQs 1151:
AVG 8 conflicts with SpywareBlaster, Spybot S&D's Immunize Feature although a fix is anticipated in the next release.

Is there a standalone AVG Anti-Virus Edition or AVG Anti-Spyware Edition available with AVG 8.0?
No, there is no standalone product available with anti-virus or anti-spyware functionality only. AVG 7.5 Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware users will be offered a free upgrade to AVG 8.0 Anti-Virus, containing anti-virus and anti-spyware functionality protection within one improved scanning engine.

An "ActiveX Compatibility" registry key is a result of the "Immunize" function included in some anti-spyware programs (e.g.: "Spybot search & destroy", "Spyware blaster",...)
The key contains the same registry entries as the actual threats, thus preventing them from working correctly. Some anti-spyware programs use this method to prevent launching of the malware. Unfortunately, these parts are still detected by AVG signatures and that is why AVG marks them as infected.
To assure protection provided by AVG against these threats, it is not possible to remove such signatures from AVG virus bases.
Because of this, "Immunize" function included in above mentioned softwares is NOT compatible with AVG products.

Thank you, Alumbagh and Quietman 7
I have uninstalled all references to AVG 7 and Search finds nothing.
However I still cannot install AVG 8 for the reason given in my first posting.
Is there another free anti virus I can install until the AVG experts sort this out, please?
I have used AVG for years with no problems!!

Quick question
For the Avira AntiVir Personal - Free Antivirus you can download Avira AntiVir Premium or even Avira Premium Security Suite. It says its the demo version, so is there any differences with the non-demo version?

I actually downloaded Avira Antivir Personal Edition Classic. Seems OK . I shall miss AVG though. Not sure if Avira will protect my e-mail as AVG did.
Still don't know why AVG 8 refused to be installed.

Hi. There is a way. I was in the same exact position and was frustrated. I finally got this response from AVG;
If there is no record about this application, proceed as follows:
- Save the attached file "remove_ewido.zi_"
- Rename "remove_ewido.zi_" to "remove_ewido.zip" and extract its
contents.
- Double-click on the file "remove_ewido.reg" and confirm the
displayed dialogue.
- Restart your computer.
- In case one of the following folders exists, please delete it:
C:\Program Files\ewido anti-spyware 4.0
C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5
- Run the AVG installation again.
They sent me that file, which I still have. If there is a place where I could upload this removal file, I can do so - please someone let me know where!

Thank you for that helpful reply.
I shall think seriously about re-installing AVG now.
A HAPPY NEW YEAR to you and to ALL at this web-site.
