I'm using Norton 2007, when I open the control panel and click on Windows Firewall, I get a message that says:

"due to an unidentified problem, Windows cannot display Windows Firewall settings".

I have open up NIS but I can't seem to find where to shut it down.

NIS tells me that Inbound Firewall is OK (green check mark).

Is this a problem that I really need to be concern. Even if its not a serious problem, I would still like to be able to get into my firewall settings.

Can someone instruct me on how to go about this?

Thank You

Hi jay8201e,

You only want to run one Firewall however, have a look at this article: You cannot start the Windows Firewall service in Windows XP SP2.

Hi TMack,

I read, understood the article and I follows the instruction on it, but did not work. I went looking for SP2 to have re-download it but I can seem to bring it up. What comes up is SP3 and I read somewhere that Microsoft put off releasing it due to some kind of conflict.

I don't know if NIS is running its own firewall or is using the window firewall. I don't think the Norton 2007 comes with its own firewall.

Should I DL the SP3 or is there something else I could do to DL SP2 again.

Thank you for your assist TMack.

That depends. Do you have Norton Anti Virus or do you have Norton 360?

Jay, in your first post you mentioned Norton 2007 and NIS. NIS includes firewall and antivirus.
Then later you state you have Norton Antivirus 2007-the antivirus is a stand-alone application, which has no firewall.
Please clarify-WHICH Norton product do you have?

I think you'll find most of us don't use Windows Firewall because it's not as secure as third party firewalls. So it might be diffucult finding someone to help with this problem.
