BleepingComputer.com: Trying To Install Os To A Formatted Hard Drive

Hi!

I've just got this old computer from work and I had to format it because it had a lot of info on it and also a trojan. I wasn't too sure how to do it but I found instructions on the internet and I got to where it told all the partitions and i pressed d on the c: partition. Then it asked if i wanted to format it and I said yes but then after formatting it for a while it came up with an error and I had to turn the computer off by unplugging it. I then restarted it and it just beeped, and I restarted again, trying to boot from windows xp cd and it was still just beeping.

The original os was windows xp home edition and i had professional when i was doing the formatting. Anyway as it just kept beeping and not even the screen came on, I decided to bring the computer home so that I could connect the hard drives to this computer. I did it and I formatted both hard drives from the old computer, it had/has two. I connected the hard drives back and it still just kept beeping. What I was going to try then is to install windows while the hard drives are connected to this computer. On this computer the main hard drive is divided into two, e: and f:, f: being the security copy. I formatted both drives. And then the second hard drive is named g: on this computer. E: has 19.4 GB, f: 17.7GB and g: 55.9GB. I suppose that the E: F: one is the main hard drive because when I tried connecting the G: one on it's own, it was asking for boot drive (?) or something and when I connected both of those, the computer started with no problems and I can use both hard drives.

Now I don't know what to do, I'd like to install windows xp on the old computer, I suppose it would have to be installed to e:f: drive but I'm scared to do it, I don't want to mess up anything on this computer because this is quite new. And I'm just downloading linux ubuntu if that would be easier to install. Any ideas what I could/should do to get the old computer running? I've tried booting the old computer from XP-cd but it just beeps....

If it's a work computer...then it seems to me that the work environment is proper for resolving such issues as seem evident.
