OK, so here's the ordeal: I have a crappy audio device now, and I have no idea what the problem is. I have checked for viruses etc., but I can fix this.
1. I uninstall the audio driver device.
2. I reinstall the audio driver, then restart.
3. I go to Control Panel, Add Hardware, do the advanced steps, find the audio, and the audio works fine.
The real problem is, every time I start the computer, the audio always becomes broken.
So in a nutshell: I can fix the audio problem, but this has now become a part of my computer regime.
Is there any way to make this problem fixing permanent instead of temporary?

There shouldn't be any reason to go to Add Hardware. Is this a sound card or onboard? Are you positive you're downloading the correct driver? What's the make and model of the computer?

I started the same steps, but I didn't use the Add Hardware, and my sound still works.
Anyway, the problem is with my sound card. And yes, I have checked the model for the correct driver. I have the VIA AC'97 Vinyl Audio. I used to have the Combo Driver. As for my computer, it's custom made, so it's not an HP, Intel, or whatever.

Never mind. Seems the Add Hardware step was totally unnecessary now. My sound works perfectly fine.

That was the point I was trying to make. Glad it's working
