I was forced into an automatic update by adobe and it was unsuccessful. Once I restarted my computer it loads completely and then I can't run anything. I can’t shut down and even my task manager goes non-responsive. I've tried the Geek Squads MRI disk and nothing showed up as unusual. I went to safe mode and it works fine there. I then started closing out background programs and thought I had it fixed but nope same outcome.

Try doing a System Restore back to before the Adobe update.

budapest, I looked it up through microsoft and followed the directions. I have two problems now. First, it says system restore has been disabled, so i dont know if windows still has a restore points. Also, the bigger of the two, system restore can only be run in normal mode so when I try it I make it only about three screens in and it stalls.

Try running chkdsk while in Safe Mode.

Go Start > Run and type chkdsk /p

It will probably ask for a reboot.

Did it...nothing. The command prompt screen came up and then closed that was it.
I hope you got more ideas.

Try this. Right click on the C drive in Explorer and go Properties > Tools > Check Now (under Error Checking). Check both boxes then click "Start Now". A message will pop up saying that Error Checking will run after you restart the computer. Restart the computer and Error Checking will run automatically after the restart. After it’s finished it will restart into Windows automatically.

bigger problem now. While I was running the check, my computer was unpluged and died part way through. Now every time I start up it goes to a blue screen.
"a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to pervent damage to your computer."
I'll look at microsoft to correct this, unless you post a fix before I figure it out.
I'll let you know whats up.

When booting hit the F8 key to get to the Safe Mode menu and then try "Last known good configuration".

Sorry, I should have been more specific. Can you please post the section of the blue screen with all the numbers. It will probably look something like this:

Stop 0x0000001e (c000009a 80123f36 02000000 00000246)

I forgot what the string was for the error. I tried to look for it on Microsoft and couldn't find it, I checked the number twice.
So I took it into best buy for the nerd squad to figure it out. They said they will call me in a week and let me know what they can do. The moron there said he'll probably have to format it. So I told him if he can only format it to call me and I will pick it up. Since I can format it myself. I know all they are going to do is run the MRI cd and then say they can’t fix it. I am so pissed.
Thanks for your help I will let you know the out come.
