Hi I keep getting the following message on a blue screen:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, pres F8 to select Advanced Startup options, and then select Safe Mode.

Technical information:

***STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005,0xF73E729F, 0xF7A87C48, 0xF7A87944)

Thanks for the help

iaStor. sys is the driver for the controller on your motherboard that controls your hard drives. It's likely that it's corrupted, and reinstalling the driver for the Intel Matrix Storage Manager may fix the issue.

Great! I went ahead and re-installed the driver for the motherboard. Hopefully it worked. By the way, would you know what res.exe is? Keeps slowing down my cpu. Thanks. Carol

To find out what a file is, I just google for the filename. Then it takes a bit of research to figure out if what you're describing is among the hits that I got on google (and you'll also find some conflicting information out there).

The res.exe is most commonly associated with a program called USB Toolkit - is that what you've got?

Yes, I see that in the add/remove programs. What is this program for?

A bit of googling turned up this: http://www.koma-code.de/index.php?option=c...7&Itemid=87
If this is the program that you have installed, then it's your decision to keep it or get rid of it.

Still having the blue screen, same stop error message as before. I went to the Dell support site and downloaded the driver for the Intel Matrix Storage Manager since the CD that came with my computer from Dell for the drivers is not compatible with my computer. I am currently on hold with them so that I may get a new CD.
