In case you haven't noticed, AVG is retiring ver 7.5. You must uninstall it to install ver.8
AVG Free ver.8
This article Here says there might be a problem downloading it for Vista. According to the article, if you have a problem there is a patch HERE

It's free according to the documentation here: http://free.grisoft.com/ww.download?prd=afe#tba3

The links on the page are confusing, and if you click the wrong one you'll get the trial version of Internet Security.
Here's the link for the correct download: http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Fre...&tag=button

When AVG 8 was released it said that its free for lifetime (downloads.com) but after 2 days, software update was pushed and it became 30 days trial, this was not Internet security.
Then as soon as avast's new version launched..in few days AVG launched Free AVG 8 anti virus.

I installed AVG 8 7 managed to get expiry date in Dec 2008, I found it slowed my pc down so much I deleted it & my pc took on a whole new life again. I went for Eset Nod32 which does a wonderful job & doesn't slow pc times

My advice ditch Avg this latest version boggs things down.

Curious. I have always used AvgFree mainly because of its unobtrusiveness.

Avira Antivirus is free. There is a professional version, which is lower in price than most antivirus applications.
